Sleep Apnea – Self Assessment
There are a lot of reasons for being sleepy. Just because someone is sleepy doesn’t mean they have sleep apnea. But it also doesn’t mean they don’t have sleep apnea. Fortunately, there is a very simple screening tool known as Epsworth Sleepiness Scale or ESS for short. When it comes to sleep apnea self assessment, ESS is the go-to survey.
If the score on the survey is in the borderline or higher stage, that means your condition should be further investigated with a sleep study. If you suspect you or a loved one have sleep apnea, take this simple survey and armed with the results call your primary care doctor to take the next step. Currently only medical doctors or sleep specialists are able to diagnose sleep apnea. This is important for 2 reasons. One is to make sure you indeed have sleep apnea and the second is to determine the severity of the condition.
