Less than 5% of dentists practicing in the United States have the necessary training and knowledge to treat problems such as jaw pain, headaches or sleep apnea. Our TMJ dentist, Sonny Eslampour DDS is a fellow in the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain and a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine distinguishing his dedication and achievements.

TMJ, TMD and Facial Pain

Pain in the head and neck area which is not coming from the teeth (e.g. impacted wisdom tooth, infected tooth, etc.) can be due to problems with the jaw joint itself. This condition is referred to as TMJ or TMD. Jaw pain can also stem from the muscles rather than the jaw joint. Another type of jaw pain has its origin in the nerves rather than the supporting structures. Treating jaw pain must address the source of the problem, not just the symptoms.

Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is one of many disorders collectively referred to as Sleeping Disorders.

Sleep apnea is a life threatening condition and should be taken quite seriously. It affects children and adults. Gone untreated sleep apnea leads to serious medical consequences. Sleep apnea also disrupts the important "sleep cycle" meaning the brain is not fully rested. In children sleep apnea has been linked to ADD. In adults sleep apnea has led to serious work-related accidents as well as overall reduction in performance and productivity. Treated with oral appliances treatment has been very successful for these patients.

Migraines and Other Headaches

Headaches create great havoc on the mind and the body.  They can be due to the presence or absence of another chemical or substance. Any coffee drinker can vouch for the headache after 24 hours of no caffeine! Migraines and Cluster headaches are the hardest to treat. Tension headaches are the most common and the most treatable. In treating headaches it is important to realize that for some there is no known cure and treatment is directed at the symptoms.

Sonny Eslampour, DDS is a dentist with a sub-specialty in treatment of TMJ disorders and Sleep Apnea.
